DIAMOND partners have presented the project on the webinar “Understanding women’s travel and employment needs” organised by the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) on the 9th of June.
The webinar was focused on discussing about women’s travel needs and expectations with a special reference on public transport users, bike sharing users, autonomous vehicles users and those working in the transport sector.
During the session, DIAMOND partners have presented the main results and analysis done within the four project’s use cases.
Ajeni Thimnu, researcher at TU Dublin, has explained and shared the analysis done and results achieved regarding issues and challenges faced by women in surface transport evaluation. Moreover, Ricard Barberà researcher at the Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia (IBV) presented the autonomous vehicles experiments and talked about the experience and needs of automated vehicles’ users. During his presentation, two key concepts were introduced, “trip chaining” including mobility of care as a differentiated pattern of mobility for women (instead of simple commute from A to B, i.e. from home to workplace) and “Nomadic traveller”, considering the scenario of shared autonomous vehicles.”
On the other hand, Chris Blache, cofounder of Genre & Ville, explained the main opportunities of bike sharing services and mentioned that there are still some important challenges and barriers faced by women users of these services.
Finally, Dr. Mary Kinahan, researcher at the TU Dublin, talked about the most important challenges and issues for women as professionals in the transport and mobility sector.
