The DIAMOND Project has been represented at the CIVITAS Forum Conference 2019 in Graz, Austria, from 2nd-4thOctober 2019. This was the 17th edition of Europe’s top sustainable urban mobility event, which brings together the leading figures in the field.
The forum reveals the pioneering solutions bringing cleaner and better transport to Europe.
In this forum, representatives from Diamond, in collaboration with various EU projects such as INCLUSION, HiReach, TInnGo, have participated in Session 28, scheduled for the 4th of October and the session has been moderated by Andreé Woodcock, from Coventry University.
The theme of session 28 was to explore ‘socio- demographic challenges, diversity and gender – and free market solutions versus political interventions’.
A DIAMOND team member Dr Leva, Professor at the Technological University Dublin, with the support of Dr Gorrini, Transport Research Consultant at Systematica, have presented DIAMOND’s work under the title ‘Women in transport: policies and practice for inclusive mobility planning’.
The presentation talked about how in DIAMOND we are facing the challenge of defining anoverall methodology for the development of a way to assess fairness in different transport scenarios. The methodology includes an analysis of the needs and barriers currently faced by women as both users and employees in the transport sector, through a thematic analysis of factors defined as fairness characteristics (FCs) which influence the inclusion of women.
The project utilises both primary and secondary data, which will be analysed using computational methods and an interdisciplinary analysis to identify those factors with greatest influence. The methodology also includes a matching process analysis to assess what corrective actions/measures are most effective to address the needs and barriers identified for transport users and employees.
Various EU projects such as INCLUSION, HiReach, TInnGo also have been presented in CIVITAS forum for exploring related questions and offering a view of their approaches and findings.
